HEAVEN
By Terry MacAlmon
Just imagine your first day in Heaven. Upon your arrival you are greeted at the gates by your guardian angel. As you walk down a long corridor you hear the most incredible sound—one like crashes of great thunder and many oceans roaring. Soon you enter the place where all of this sound is coming from—a huge arena, the largest you’ve ever seen.
It looks to be several thousand feet in each direction and as high as it is long and wide. Now, looking in one direction you see a massive orchestra of the most excellent musicians, playing every instrument known to man, as well as many others that are familiar only to the citizens of this new land. Behind the great symphony stands an angelic choir, far too many to number. Harmonies are heard that are different and more beautiful than ever heard on the earth. The vocal range of the singers goes several octaves above and below what any human could have ever have sung.
Now, looking up into the grandstands, you are taken aback by the great throng of people from every tribe and nation. Some are singing at the top of their celestial lungs. Others are shouting their praise with their hands fully extended. Many are waving banners of worship and chanting the name “Jesus.” Some are simply weeping with hearts of love and gratitude for their redemption. Then, your eyes are drawn back to the main area where there are seemingly millions of children dancing in white robes with eyes full of illuminated expressions of joy and laughter. You soon realize that these are all the aborted babies of the earth who are now rejoicing in the rescue of their Creator. You are overwhelmed with emotion as your host calmly says, “Welcome to Heaven, where His worship is made perfect and never comes to an end. Join the Song of the Lamb.”
And with that, your eyes suddenly become fixed on the very center of the arena. All attention has been directed to this one area.
It’s almost as if everything has reached an incredible pinnacle of volume and anticipation. Then, out of a circle of 24 worshiping elders it finally appears: the throne—the Great Throne of the Lamb. It slowly rises in majestic power with clouds of smoke surrounding it.
The glory exuding from it is indescribable—its magnificence unlike anything ever known. Then, at last, you see Him.
There He is—His countenance so bright and glorious you can hardly stand it. His eyes are like a consuming fire. With the continuous cries of, “Worthy” and “Holy is the Lord” echoing from all across the great arena, you fall to the ground in greatest awe and reverence.
It’s really Him—the King of all Kings, the Lord of all Lords, the Savior of the world...The Lion of the tribe of Judah….THE LAMB OF GOD…JESUS!
Well, friend, there you have it. What a celebration—an eternal celebration! Now the description above is not what Heaven is actually like—IT’S REALLY A LOT BETTER THAN THIS! Can you even wait to join such a celebration? King David must have had a glimpse of what was coming. That is why he insisted on praising God with his whole being. He refused to settle for anything less than Heaven’s worship on the earth.
Let us start now to prepare for that great eternal event that awaits us. Let our praise and worship be filled with His glorious presence. And let our corporate gatherings be taken over and consumed by the NEW SONG of the Lord—a song of celebration, proclamation, exaltation, and adoration to the Lover of our souls, Jesus. He’s worthy!
